Who We Serve

BUYF serves young people from the Roxbury, Dorchester and Mattapan neighborhoods of Boston.

About 85% of our participants are African American, and about 15% are Latino.

With a focus on truant youth, BUYF works with students from middle school, to high school and tracks students into college. In addition, once students are in college, BUYF provides a support system to ensure college completion.

Profile of Middle School Students from the Wheatley, Lewis and King middle schools

Students on probation, active CHINS or active court case: 45%

Students who have experienced any of the following: 73%
-Arrest
-death of a family member or friend
-incarceration of family member or friend
-stabbing, shooting robbery of self or that of a family member or friend
-fire in dwelling
-molestation, rape or self, family member or friend
-drug addiction in house
-physical or verbal abuse
-unstable living environment
-moving from place to place

Percentage of students attending tutoring at BUYF: 30%

Participants who passed to the next grade (81/93) or 87%.
Male Participants who passed (45/54) or 83%.
Female Participants who passed (36/39) or 92%.
